Dear Friends                                                                                                                                       4 January 2012

Happy  New  Year  to  You  All

11 February   Fish and Chip Supper and Race Night    Parish Hall  7.30 p.m.

It’s that time of year again to roll up your sleeves and practice twiddling a small piece of broom handle behind your back!   If you are mystified, come along to our Race Night and marvel at the consummate ease with which ‘jockeys’ encourage small wooden horses to glide across the floor harnessed to said pieces of broom handle.   Tickets, £8 for adults and £5 for children, including supper, are available from David Harrison on             01795 479727      , or Shirley Henderson on             01795 425855      .   First race 7.45 p.m.   Please bring your own drinks.

During 2011 events run by the Friends raised £4,223 (including generous donations) making an overall total of £5,800 for the maintenance of Borden Church.   Maintenance has obviously been of major importance this year and you will have noticed the corrugated sheeting that surrounded the church for many months!   The Parochial Church Council will pay for the majority of this work but our contribution will be £10,000 for the restoration of the window in the Lady Chapel.  You may also have noticed that the Tower clock, having stopped some months ago, has had its face removed.   You may have actually seen it abseiling down the Tower!   On its return from Penrith where it is undergoing a “make over” it will reappear repaired, repainted and regilded.   The mechanism will be repaired when the face is replaced.   The estimated cost of this work is £5,240 which the Friends have agreed to pay.  The PCC is also planning to renovate the vestry, providing toilet facilities and a small kitchen, at which time the Friends hope to make further contributions.

The winners of the following draws were:

We are currently planning the progamme of events for this year about which I will keep you informed
